Liposuction recovery: a realistic timeline
Compression, swelling, and the months it takes to see the final shape.

Patients underestimate liposuction recovery because the incisions are tiny, but the internal healing and swelling are substantial.
The first week brings soreness, bruising, and drainage from the small incisions; most people take several days off. Compression garments are worn for weeks to control swelling and help the skin contract to the new contour, skipping them compromises the result. Light activity resumes within days, more strenuous exercise after a few weeks per the surgeon's guidance.
The part that surprises people is how long the final shape takes to emerge. Swelling can persist for months and masks the result; the true contour often is not visible until three to six months out. Patients who panic at week three, convinced it did not work, are usually looking at swelling, not fat. How the skin redrapes over those months matters too, which is why skin tightening after fat removal deserves its own attention. Patience and disciplined garment use are what convert a good operation into a good-looking result.
